Hong Kong Suspends Morning and Whole-Day Classes Under Red Rainstorm Warning

Hong Kong's Education Bureau suspended classes at all morning and whole-day schools on August 27 after the Observatory issued a red rainstorm warning at 5:05 a.m. The signal means more than 50 millimetres of rain has fallen or is expected generally within one hour, with rain likely to continue. Schools were told to activate contingency plans, receive students who arrived and release them only when conditions were safe. Afternoon-school classes would proceed if the signal was lowered to amber or cancelled by 10:30 a.m., unless further advice was issued.
