Former Mossad Chief Calls for Escalating Pressure on Iran Until Regime Falls

Former Mossad director David “Dedi” Barnea called for economic, diplomatic and operational pressure on Iran to intensify “until it falls” during a Jerusalem City Council meeting where Mayor Moshe Lion presented him an award. Barnea said recent U.S. sanctions were another step in that campaign and argued Iran’s threat extends through ballistic missiles, terrorism and possible nuclear weapons. He assessed Israel’s strategic position as stronger than before October 7, 2023, citing damage to Hezbollah and Hamas capabilities. Barnea, who left office June 1 after roughly five years as director, also urged greater social cohesion and accepted the award on behalf of Mossad personnel.
