Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Kim Yo Jong in a dark jacket and white blouse, based on an archival 2018 portrait rather than the September 2026 DMZ statement, rendered in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel strokes.

Kim Yo Jong denied on September 30 that North Korea planted mines linked to explosions that injured three South Korean soldiers in the Demilitarized Zone on September 21. She accused Seoul of fabricating its preliminary findings and said North Korean border units would retaliate if South Korean troops fired directly at soldiers working on border fortifications. South Korea's military said it found a North Korean antipersonnel mine near the blast site during a joint inspection with the United Nations Command. Seoul has not yet announced final findings on the explosions.
