Netanyahu Departs for New York to Address UN General Assembly

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shaking hands with then-US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo before US and Israeli flags at the United Nations in New York during the September 2018 General Assembly; archival context, not a depiction of his September 2026 departure or speech, rendered in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel strokes.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu departed for New York early Thursday to address the United Nations General Assembly, with his speech scheduled for 2 p.m. local time. He is expected to spend only several hours in the United States and return to Israel without staying overnight. He is expected to meet Argentine President Javier Milei and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša, while no meeting with US President Donald Trump is scheduled. Iran is expected to feature prominently in the speech, which comes just over a month before Israel's October 27 election; protests and walkouts are expected.
