Behind these numbers are millions of households that have taken their first meaningful step into the formal financial system. #12YearsOfJanDhan has fundamentally changed the way millions of Indians access and participate in the formal economy. Launched in 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister @NarendraModi Ji, the initiative reshaped India’s financial inclusion landscape by taking banking to the last mile, not just as a standalone intervention, but as part of a larger digital and governance transformation. What makes this journey even more meaningful is that 56% of PMJDY account holders are women, while 78% of accounts are in rural and semi-urban areas. For many families, having a bank account means being able to save securely, access financial services and receive government benefits directly. Together with Aadhaar and mobile connectivity, the JAM Trinity has made welfare delivery more transparent, efficient and inclusive. PMJDY is much more than the number of accounts opened. It is about bringing people into the financial mainstream and ensuring that every household has the opportunity to participate in India’s economic journey. Twelve years on, PMJDY stands as a powerful example of what inclusive public policy can achieve when scale, technology and a clear focus on the citizen come together.

10 years ago, India did not just launch a payment system. We began a digital revolution. 🇮🇳 From 1.78 crore transactions in FY 2016–17 to over 24,000 crore in FY 2025–26, UPI has witnessed an extraordinary ~13,500× rise in transaction volume. Today, UPI serves 55.49 crore+ individuals and 6.5 crore merchants, connecting 731 banks on a single platform. In FY 2025–26 alone, Indians made UPI transactions worth ₹314.23 lakh crore, averaging around 66 crore transactions every single day. UPI now accounts for 85% of India’s digital payment transactions by volume and nearly 49% of the world’s real-time payment volume. And this Made-in-India innovation is now live across 11 foreign countries. But UPI’s greatest achievement is not just the scale of its numbers. It is the scale of possibility it unlocked. A street vendor with a QR code became part of the digital economy. A small entrepreneur could receive money instantly. A family could transfer money across the country in seconds. Technology once considered complex became simple, accessible and part of everyday life. That is the India story. When vision meets innovation, when technology reaches the last mile, and when millions of Indians embrace change, transformation happens at a scale the world takes notice of. Under Prime Minister @NarendraModi Ji’s vision of Digital India, Bharat did not merely catch up with the digital revolution.
