Milei Announces Tougher Falklands Oil Sanctions and Tierra del Fuego Naval Base Funding

President Javier Milei announced that Argentina will accelerate sanctions over the Sea Lion offshore oil project during a nationally televised address. He said the decree targets companies, shareholders, directors and suppliers tied to the project, operated by Navitas Petroleum and Rockhopper Exploration, and disqualifies them from operating in Argentina. A separate emergency decree will direct more Defence Ministry resources to an integrated naval base in Tierra del Fuego and telecommunications capacity. Milei also sent Congress an urgent bill to toughen penalties, widen contracting bans and create a National Security Council.
