Brazil’s Mid-Month Consumer Prices Fall 0.40% in August

Brazil’s IPCA-15 consumer-price index fell 0.40% in August after rising 0.06% in July, the largest monthly decline since August 2022 and the first negative reading in a year. Twelve-month inflation slowed to 4.24% from 4.52%, returning below the 4.5% upper tolerance limit, while the 2026 increase reached 3.09%. Housing prices fell 1.41%, transportation dropped 1.00%, and food and beverages declined 0.57%. Residential electricity fell 6.25%, largely because the Itaipu Bonus was applied to August bills, while airfares, fuel and food at home also became cheaper.
