Rio Grande do Sul Storms Kill Four, Affect 577,230 Across 151 Municipalities

Storms in Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state killed four people and affected 577,230 across 151 municipalities, the state civil defense agency said in an update on September 22. Three deaths were confirmed in Caxias do Sul and one in Pelotas; a woman remained missing after floodwater swept away her family's car. The agency reported three people injured, 657 in emergency shelters and 3,178 displaced from their homes. It counted 156 storm-related incidents, including flooding, landslides, hail and strong winds, and said rivers in the Guaíba basin remained at risk of rising through Wednesday.
