Moldova Says Drone Alert Delayed Zelenskyy’s Flight to Norway

Moldova temporarily closed its airspace shortly after 16:30 on September 8 after detecting what authorities described as a Russian drone entering without authorization from Ukraine. Government spokesperson Dumitru Ciorici said the closure delayed three departures and four arrivals, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s flight from Chișinău to Norway. Restrictions were lifted after 17:20, when authorities received confirmation that the drone had exploded near Mihăilenii Vechi in Rîșcani district, about 160 kilometres from Chișinău International Airport. Ciorici said the measure was taken to protect aircraft already in Moldovan airspace.
