Trump Administration Renews Supreme Court Bid to Enforce Mail-Ballot Rule

The Trump administration asked the U.S. Supreme Court to stay a September 4 injunction blocking mandatory Postal Service mail-ballot verification rules for the November election. The application says the rule requires standardized envelope review, unique barcodes and state-supplied recipient data, while USPS says states retain responsibility for voter eligibility. The injunction allows states to participate voluntarily but bars mandatory verification through November 3. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson ordered responses by 4 p.m. EDT on September 9; the government also requested an immediate administrative stay as ballots begin mailing in several states.
