Great Britain Sets August 27 Legal Start for Plug-In Solar Panels

Great Britain will allow compliant plug-in solar panels from August 27 under amended electrical safety regulations. Qualifying systems can connect through a standard plug, must operate in parallel with the network and may produce no more than 800 watts of alternating-current output; plug-in batteries remain excluded. The government estimates eligible kits could supply up to 20% of an average household's electricity and save up to £110 a year, without requiring an installer. Retailers including Amazon, Argos, Currys and Wickes have committed to stock products, although permission may still be needed from landlords, freeholders or planning authorities.
