The U.S. Supreme Court stayed a Massachusetts federal judge's injunction blocking sections of President Donald Trump's election-integrity order while the government's appeal proceeds. The provisions direct the Department of Homeland Security to try to produce state citizenship lists, prioritize prosecutions for issuing federal ballots to ineligible voters and have the Postal Service begin a rulemaking that could add tracking requirements to ballot envelopes. The Court said the states likely lacked standing and that the directives themselves impose no legal requirement on states; it did not decide whether eventual measures would be lawful. A separate injunction obtained by non-state plaintiffs remains in place, leaving immediate election changes uncertain.
