NZ First Announces Immigration Reform Policies New Zealand First has today announced a number of campaign policies that will make sweeping changes to current immigration laws. New Zealand's immigration system must serve New Zealand and New Zealanders. For too long, governments have relied on immigration to drive headline economic growth and cheap labour. The result has been greater pressure on housing, infrastructure and public services, increased competition for entry-level jobs, and declining public confidence that immigration is being managed in the national interest. Population growth must not outpace our ability to build the country. New Zealand First will substantially reduce non-essential immigration and restore the principle that immigration is a privilege, not a right. New Zealand is more than an economy. It is a nation with its own history, institutions and way of life. Immigration policy should strengthen social cohesion and encourage integration into a shared national community. The foundation of any proper immigration system in our country should be the value placed on New Zealand citizenship. New Zealand needs to start viewing our citizenship as most other countries around the world do - it is a privilege that comes with special and unique rights and identity. We need to understand the importance of a country’s citizenship and the reasons why we must protect and enhance what it means to be a New Zealander. This does not take away from the ability for migrants looking to move here, contribute, and help build our country from showing total commitment and patriotism for New Zealand by becoming a citizen. Even the most basic of privileges and rights in any country like voting has become more like an expectation for all, rather than a unique right for New Zealanders. The Waitangi Tribunal is currently operating as a grievance make-work scheme and way out of scope of its original purpose when it was established. Does it need to be abolished? Yes. But unfortunately the Act Party’s announcement comes straight out of Jim Bolger’s speech circa 1990 - where he said it will be wound up by 2014 once all settlements were completed. Remember that? “Once completed” means sometime never. This Act Party policy is the same illusion that Bolger had and doesn’t go far enough with the reality of dealing with the tribunal. We have policy coming that will deal with this properly. Watch this space.
Sadly National's policy is not "ring fencing" the visitor levy. It is just reallocating the operating allowance to ensure they can continue to use a convenient campaign slogan. Queenstown, Auckland, and other regions are screaming out for a bed levy for tourists so they can build the infrastructure to cope with the tourism their local economies desperately need. New Zealand First supports the city deals the government made with Queenstown and Auckland and their call for a bed levy - we would ensure it does not apply to kiwis. It’s not complicated - Te Papa already has a charge at the door which New Zealanders do not need to pay - it’s just commonsense.
NZ Super for Citizens Only. Our NZ Superannuation scheme was designed to look after our seniors in their retirement. Kiwis who left school sometimes at the age of fifteen or sixteen, worked two, sometimes three jobs, for forty or fifty years of their lives paying taxes – sometimes through the highest tax periods in our country’s history. They deserve to be looked after in their retirement. With our growing older population and the increasing costs of super on taxpayers, how is it fair that the tax burden of supporting seniors now goes to paying for the full retirement of someone who has migrated to our country and only lived and paid taxes for sometimes less than half of the time compared to those who have worked their whole lives here? Over just the past twenty years, New Zealand has had a total net migration of around 650,000 people into our country, at an average of over 30,000 each year. And with that 650,000 migrants that has come with it a percentage tax burden just for NZ Super which is a ticking timebomb. Under current settings, you don’t have to be a New Zealand citizen to gain full access to NZ Super payments. In fact, you don’t even have to be a permanent resident. You only need to have a resident visa. How have we come to a point of having no value or meaning of being a New Zealand Citizen? Currently, someone who has lived in New Zealand for just twenty years, and only need to be in the country for five years after the age of fifty, can be eligible for full super payments. That means they only have to be in New Zealand for one year out of every three after the age of fifty, and they can get the same full amount as someone who has worked their entire life paying taxes since they were fifteen years old. How is that fair? The annual superannuation bill for older migrants has hit a billion dollars. In December 2025, the Crown paid $2 million a week to over 42,000 super annuitants who became resident in New Zealand aged 50 or older. Annually, the total works out at over $1 billion. That sum has more than doubled in the past 10 years – from $500 million in 2015, to over $1 billion last year. New Zealand First believes we need to instil some meaning and value back into being a Kiwi, and back into being a New Zealand Citizen. Our policy is that only New Zealand citizens will be eligible for New Zealand Super. This policy will have a grace period to take effect within the next three years. If you want to get NZSuper then you need to sign up, be proud enough of New Zealand, and show full commitment to our country and become a citizen – our taxpayers should no longer continue to be used as a bottomless pit by some migrants to our country. This is about economic fairness, and it is about putting New Zealanders first.

The Greens new policy of Nationalising Private Supermarkets is textbook communism by stealth. The Greens have gone full Mamdani and the waiting queues will be kilometres long - just look at how it turned out in places like Venezuela. The Greens are economic illiterates who think they are still in high school - this from Chloe who wants to be the Minister of Finance. Chris Hipkins is going to be waking up in cold sweats.
We are proud of our country’s history and our foundation English language - which is now an official language thanks to NZFirst. We are not going to sit by and be lectured by some bunch of low IQ weasels who have no idea about history, and even less of an idea about the woke cultural madness they foolishly promote - that goes for the hopeless TikTok politicians in the Green Party spouting that crap too. If we are the only ones to stand up for and be proud of our country, our heritage, and our language then so be it - but if this group of try-hard performers don’t like our stance on the English language they should naff off back home.
No one should lose their job for refusing to take a tikanga course that has no relevance to what their job is. Janet Dickson has lost her real estate career because she refused to attend a compulsory te reo and te tiriti course. This course does not help one real Maori. Having irrelevant cultural compulsion shoved down people’s throats with the threat of being fired if they don’t is nothing but totalitarianism. This is woke political and cultural correctness gone mad. How can we live in a free society when compulsion and threats are now the norm? Something is seriously wrong if we continue to turn a blind eye and do nothing to stop this woke cultural cancer spreading and cancelling hard working kiwis who just want to get on with their lives.

Willie Jackson was asked if Labour was going to bring back co-governance. Willie said “apparently co-governance scares people, so we might give it a new name”. We have some “names” for him that he could use: Separatist. Racist. Apartheid. New Zealand First will never support co-governance. We believe in one people, one flag, one country, one law for all.
Labour are back reverting to type - they are on the patronising separatist race to the bottom along with the Greens, Maori, and Opportunity Party. Why funding just for Maori who are struggling? Why not all struggling kiwis? Funding for trades training should be focussed on ALL New Zealanders who need the skills and training to get into work. Maori need and want the exact same as every other New Zealander struggling to find work or get the skills they need. Our vision and values as a country should be based on need not race - the sooner we get rid of separatist thinking and work together as one people the sooner we will have a better future together as one people.
Former FMA Chair Craig Stobo to Stand for NZFirst in Botany New Zealand First is announcing today that former Chair of the Financial Markets Authority Craig Stobo will stand for New Zealand First in the Botany Electorate at the general election. Stobo grew up in Oamaru and attended Otago University where he graduated with a BA in Economics (First Class Hons). He subsequently worked for the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He moved into investment banking with DFC/ Zealcorp in Wellington and then Bankers Trust NZ in Auckland. He helped establish BT Funds Management New Zealand - growing it to $3 billion of funds under management, and was CEO from 2000 to 2004. After attending The Wharton School in Philadelphia he commenced a career in business startups, advisory work, and governance. This included chairing the Review of Taxation of Investment Income in 2004 for Finance Minister Dr Michael Cullen, the International Funds Services Development Group in 2010 for Prime Minister John Key, and chairing the Establishment Board of the Local Government Funding Agency in 2011, which funds Council capital expenditures, is a AAA rated multi-currency issuer, and has grown to $26 billion. He is also a founding director of the Auckland Future Fund, which is investing globally on behalf of Auckland Council. Stobo was appointed Chair of the Financial Markets Authority in May of 2024 and left his position in May this year after offering his resignation following an investigation commissioned by MBIE. He was found to have allegedly breached standards of ‘political neutrality’ when he made a personal submission to the select committee on the Treaty Principles Bill where he outlined his views on the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, and when he queried mandatory climate reporting disclosures. "Standing for New Zealand First offers me the opportunity to speak freely on issues of public importance" says Mr Stobo. "I am looking forward to representing the public who also share my views and who want to hear their representatives speak frankly on key issues that affect them and their families". Stobo brings a wealth of experience, skills, and knowledge to New Zealand First. He is outspoken on issues that matter, he is not afraid to challenge the status quo, and he has the ability to get things done. Stobo is a tremendous asset to the team and will be a force in parliament representing New Zealand First.
The Labour Party's coalition partner the Maori Party released a tax policy yesterday - they called it a "bottom line". New Zealand needs to become more productive and encourage New Zealanders to start businesses that employ people, rebuild industry, and make us wealthy again. The Maori Party instead think the way to grow employers is by ratcheting up the business tax rate, making us uncompetitive with other countries in attracting investment. This is a jobs killer. The Maori Party want to charge a wealth tax - but not for Maori. This is a policy for the Maori elite, by the Maori elite, from the Maori elite. The Labour Party needs to come clean about their intentions - are they prepared to govern with separatist tax-mongers backed by money-rakers at the Waipereira Trust like John Tamihere, or will they rule them out? We are the only party who has never done a deal with the useless separatist Maori Party and never will.
The Auckland and Queenstown deals that includes investigating bed levies is still on the table. These city deals were made between the government and those cities, not between those cities and the National Party. The signed deal with Auckland states that these levies will be considered by the government in 2027 - nothing has changed. The GOVERNMENT has NOT considered it yet. If other parties want to campaign on reneging on the deal to even consider the levy that’s up to them. But in NZFirst we believe a deal is a deal. The sooner parties realise this is MMP and not FPP the better it will be for the country. Our view is that international tourists should be open to a bed levy that helps pay for key tourism infrastructure in those cities. Both Auckland and Queenstown are screaming out for it - but we are sure this will be clarified when the government considers it in 2027 as agreed.
