The world war Europe is trying to ignore keeps accelerating.
🎯 Don’t forget that China is an active participant in Russian war-making, and is learning and developing as well. If the West doesn’t learn from Ukraine and help win this war, it will be left far behind.
This also indirectly explains why deterrence is so important against these so-called Russian hybrid attacks. Even if the chance of being caught is small, if the consequences will be steep, the risk is too great. If the consequences are minimal, keep attacking even when caught.
You can call this bribery or socialism or just another lie, but remember it’s the Republican Party that endorses this garbage. Trump is deeply unpopular, but has promised he’ll rig the midterm elections for them, so they still won’t stand up to him.
As I warned when Trump first came to office, it’s not the corruption you don’t see that is the biggest problem with demagogues and autocrats, it’s the daily corruption they perform proudly and normalize.
Putin tells Trump that he wants to make a deal and the only holdup is Zelenskyy and Trump simply regurgitates it and goes back to posting AI slop on social media.
Second, the US has many ways to pressure Russia, but refuses to do so, while Russia has only violence and terror with which to pressure the US. E.g. aiding Iran in killing American forces and allies. This should provoke the US to fight back, but Trump and the GOP won’t.
First, and most importantly, is that he’s wrong. Ukraine is not going to surrender if the US abandons them. Trump has already cut off almost all aid. You would think Russian officials would stop making this mistake after getting their asses kicked in Ukraine for so long.
Business as usual... Trump loves to have the US government take control of private companies, but no problems for those exporting components Russia uses to murder Ukrainians.
Decades of warnings, then years of actual combat while Russia--with the help of China, Iran, and North Korea--shifted to a war footing. And still the West refused to cut off Russia, ramp up its defenses, and help Ukraine end the war. The price always goes up.
Secretary Colby has been doomsaying about Ukraine forever, usually echoing Russian talking points. He and Rutte sounding as if they must only ever be spectators to Russia's bloody invasion instead of helping Ukraine end it. Why wait for Russia to rebuild?
The West has long been part of this war, and there must be consequences: Breaking off relations with Moscow & deterrence, not wasting more time with fake negotiations as Russia murders more Ukrainians and grows bolder against Europe. My latest in @welt: https://t.co/ufUf0eMMk8
Translation: We expect Trump will continue to help Russia in attempting to dismember Ukraine in order to establish profitable personal business opportunities. Also, our aggressive intentions toward Europe are zero, just as we said they were against Ukraine before we invaded.
It will always be cheaper and easier to kill than to defend. Thanks to China’s support, and the many nations funding Russia’s war effort by buying its oil and gas, the only long-term defense for Ukraine is a good offense. Long-range sanctions and destroying the launchers.
Yet Trump will blame Ukraine, or at best "both sides".
Mike Johnson is the best example of the complete transformation of the GOP from the party of "law and justice" into a sheepish flock of Trump sycophants.
Sure, Russia may become an ally of the United States and the West—after the collapse of the hostile dictatorship, the end of its empire and the imperialist virus, and a real embrace of democracy. E.g. Germany and Japan post-WWII.
There's no "win-win" with cancer. Putin's "aspirations" are the destruction of Ukraine and perpetual war on Europe. We know that because that is what he's doing.
Trump and Putin’s business partners are providing more utility to Ukraine as temporary human shields than anything else. Perhaps they could stay in Ukrainian cities permanently. Either Putin would stop bombing or they would learn what Russia is actually doing to Ukraine.
Putin needs perpetual war to survive in power in Russia, period. That means never-ending war in Ukraine, and/or expanded war in Europe. Nothing he says changes the fact that he won’t stop until stopped, and pretending otherwise is delaying necessary action.
The tens of thousands of innocent Ukrainians Russia has murdered under Putin's command will have no incredible stories and their families will have only memories of them. What a disgrace, these worms supposedly representing America.
Witkoff and Kushner, like Trump, won’t even name Russia as the aggressor because that might offend KGB dictator Putin. They must show him due respect, unlike to the thousands of innocents in Ukraine murdered by Russia, and whose rolls would only expand under their deals.
Until proven otherwise, your time understanding this war is better spent reviewing the daily Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilians that don’t make the front pages anymore. The schools & hospitals bombed, entire families murdered, life in a European capital in bomb shelters.
I’d love to be wrong, but all signs point to this latest "breakthrough" or "pivot" being another Kremlin-designed tactic to avoid pressure on Trump from Congress & on Putin from Europe. We’ve been through this many times, & invader Russia is still murdering Ukrainians every day.
It’s just hours after having his lackey Speaker Johnson spike the Graham sanctions bill, and long after removing anyone who sympathized with Ukraine, like Gen. Kellogg, or put US national security over private deals betraying it and NATO to Russia.
