I had a highly productive working meeting with Mohamed Alabbar, the visionary founder of Emaar Properties—the world-renowned developer behind iconic global landmarks like the Burj Khalifa. This momentous engagement was seamlessly arranged and coordinated by my Special Advisor on Investment and Empowerment, Dr. Paul Tungwarara. His dedication to driving economic diplomacy and bridging international partnerships continues to play a vital role in advancing our national vision. During our discussions, we finalized exciting plans for a massive new investment in premium hospitality, bringing world-class luxury hotels to our country. Mr. Alabbar and his executive delegation will be arriving later this September to conduct site inspections and finalize the project details. This strategic partnership will create thousands of jobs, boost local businesses, and position Zimbabwe as a premier destination for global travelers. Progress is on the way!
Today, I had the honor of addressing hundreds of people gathered in Sofala Province, Mozambique, to celebrate a Timely and Strategic Boost to our regional fuel security. Energy remains at the absolute heart of the Second Republic’s economic transformation agenda.This expansion project at the Nhamatanda Centre will not only strengthen Zimbabwe and Mozambique as reliable partners in regional trade, but it further positions the Beira Corridor as a critical lifeline for regional economies. As we move forward, Zimbabwe pledges its full commitment to working hand-in-hand with Mozambique to meet all expansion obligations—particularly regarding environmental protection and enhanced health and safety standards. We stand ready to implement all cooperation agreements with our Mozambican brothers and sisters, underscoring our shared commitment to regional energy security and sustainable economic development. Together, we build a prosperous future!
On behalf of the government and the people of our nation, I extend our warmest congratulations to President Hakainde Hichilema on taking the oath of office today for his second term. Zambia continues to serve as a beacon of democratic stability, peaceful governance, and unity on our continent. Watching the peaceful exchange and consolidation of power today reminds us of the shared bonds of history, culture, and progress that deeply connect our two nations. We look forward to further strengthening our bilateral relations, deepening our economic cooperation, and working hand-in-hand within SADC and the African Union to build a more prosperous and integrated region for all our people. Honoured to officially open the 116th Zimbabwe Agricultural Show today under the theme: “Powering Growth: Where Agriculture, Technology, and Commerce Converge.” We must modernise our sector, and I challenge the private sector to partner with our hardworking farmers. To our youth & women: agriculture is our present and future. Through the Youth Agriculture Entrepreneurs Hub, step up, innovate, and lead!Under NDS2, the Second Republic will no longer export raw materials, jobs, and opportunities. We are establishing Special Agro-Processing Zones across all 10 provinces to ensure local value addition. All agricultural produce must be value-added right here at home. Together, let us secure our food sovereignty and build an empowered, industrialised economy!
Today, I had the honor of virtually connecting with leaders, experts, and partners at the 8th Meeting of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Regional Committee for Africa, proudly hosted in our beautiful resort city of Victoria Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya. Zimbabwe is humbled by the global community's confidence in our nation to host this pivotal summit. We remain deeply committed to advancing Africa's critical role in the global energy transition agenda. We commend Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and President Emmanuel Macron of France for their ongoing commitment to strengthening solar energy partnerships with Africa. Africa possesses some of the world’s richest natural endowments. Our solar resources must be viewed as vital instruments to industrialize, modernize, and scale up access to essential services in line with the African Union Agenda 2063. We must deploy greater leverage around regional and continental financing platforms, maximizing regional electricity markets and shared infrastructure. Our transition must be just, inclusive, and leave no one and no place behind. We bear a shared responsibility to empower our women and youth as central participants—whether as entrepreneurs, technicians, engineers, or investors. We must strengthen local capacity to manufacture, adapt, install, and maintain solar technologies. Initiatives like the Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C) are welcome initiatives that will contribute to increased technical knowledge, training, and skills transfer to our young people. The International Solar Alliance provides us with an excellent framework to optimize our solar potential, secure our energy systems, and uplift our people. Together, let us harness the power of the sun to bring prosperity to Zimbabwe and the entire African continent!
Upgrading our health sector is a top priority for the Second Republic, and we are delivering on our promise. The Presidential Hospital Renovation Programme is moving at an accelerated pace across our nation's primary medical complexes, including the 2,800-bed Main Hospital block at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare and the historic Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo! Following the successful modernization of supporting facilities like Adlam House at Parirenyatwa—now fully equipped with solar power and clean borehole water—we are simultaneously rolling out extensive, long-overdue infrastructure upgrades at Mpilo Hospital to overhaul clinical spaces and staff residences. This nationwide, targeted phase focuses : •Rehabilitating critical patient wards and healthcare spaces. •Upgrading diagnostic and surgical equipment with 21st-century modern technologies. •Integrating new medical systems to support our hard-working personnel. •Eliminating long-standing structural and utility bottlenecks across our referral centers. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health and Child Care, together with related Agencies, are strictly directed to remove all barriers of entry in the establishment of specialist healthcare facilities and services. Today, I had the privilege of witnessing the signing of a landmark 25-year Special Mining Lease Agreement between the Government of Zimbabwe and Karo Platinum (part of Tharisa Plc). This major milestone secures long-term tenure over a 23,903-hectare mining area on our mineral-rich Great Dyke.This project is a direct outcome of the vision we launched in 2018. With over US$240 million already invested in plant establishment, mining fleets, water and power infrastructure, and community development, Phase 1 alone is set to create up to 1,000 jobs for our people. This fully compliant agreement—signed on behalf of the Government by Mines and Mining Development Minister Eng. Polite Kambamura and Finance Minister Prof. Mthuli Ncube—underscores our commitment to transparency, legal certainty, and investor security.We are unlocking our nation's vast mineral wealth to drive sustainable industrial growth, create decent employment, and uplift communities. Together, we build Zimbabwe!
Today, I had the honor of joining my brother, President Cyril Ramaphosa, at the Gallagher Convention Centre for the South Africa–Zimbabwe Business Forum. Running alongside the 4th Session of our Bi-National Commission (BNC), this critical forum brings together business leaders and stakeholders from both nations to unlock massive trade and investment opportunities. Our region is not poor in resources. We are endowed with critical minerals, fertile agricultural land, vibrant industries, and world-class universities. Most importantly, we have talented young people with ideas, energy, and ambition. The task before us is to unlock their inherent acumen to build a better future. Our natural resources must increasingly feed industries within our own region and create value for our people—not for others. I am highly encouraged by the innovations emerging from our tertiary institutions and innovation hubs in agriculture, mining, manufacturing, engineering, and IT. What must now follow is production. An innovation cannot just remain in a laboratory; it must be commercialized.Through this forum, our shared vision is clear:Together , we are driving sustainable economic growth, empowering our youth, and deepening regional integration. Africa is open for business!
