Yemen Clashes Pass 300 Dead as Hundreds of Families Flee

More than 300 combatants and some civilians have been killed since Houthi forces began an offensive in southwest Yemen on Thursday, according to military and medical sources from both sides. Government officials reported 84 troops killed from midday Saturday to early Sunday, while Houthi military sources reported 57 fighters killed over the same period. Hundreds of families fled Maqbanah and Jabal Habashi in Taiz governorate as fighting spread around Taiz, Hays and Mokha. The offensive targets routes toward government-held Mokha and the Bab al-Mandab strait, while later local reporting described territorial control as fluid.
