Portugal’s Diesel Hits Record as Fuel-Price Protests Disrupt Sines Roads

Portugal’s average simple-diesel price rose by €0.12 to about €2.149 a litre on September 7, surpassing the country’s previous record, while 95-octane petrol climbed €0.09 to about €2.112. Drivers held a horn protest on Lisbon’s 25 April Bridge and a slow-moving convoy toward Galp’s Sines refinery. Rádio Sines reported 60 to 100 vehicles and a queue of more than 10 kilometres on the IC33 as police monitored the peaceful action. The government’s extraordinary petroleum-tax reduction took effect the same day after the Automobile Club of Portugal had forecast gross weekly increases of €0.15 for diesel and €0.12 for petrol.
