Polling stations opened across Saxony-Anhalt at 08:00 CEST on Sunday for an election in which the AfD is seeking Germany’s first far-right state government since World War II. Roughly 1.7 million eligible voters may cast constituency and party-list ballots before polls close at 18:00. The AfD’s Ulrich Siegmund has said he would seek the governorship only with an absolute majority, while mainstream parties have ruled out coalitions with his party. Counting begins after polls close, with an initial projection expected at 18:00.
