Category 4 Hurricane Lowell Forecast to Pass West of Hawaii; Kauai Watch Likely

Category 4 Hurricane Lowell had sustained winds of 145 mph at 2100 UTC Saturday and was about 635 miles south-southwest of Lihue, Hawaii, the National Hurricane Center said. Its forecast track takes the center across part of Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument and just west of the main Hawaiian Islands on Monday night. Kauai County watches were likely later Saturday, with tropical-storm conditions possible there late Monday or Monday night. The advisory forecast 3–6 inches of rain on Kauai and the Big Island, locally above 10 inches, alongside flash-flood, mudslide, storm-surge and life-threatening surf risks.
