U.S. Says It Struck Three Iranian Tankers After Missile Attacks on Warships

U.S. Central Command said its forces struck three Iranian crude-oil carriers on September 5 after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched ballistic missiles toward an American aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer in regional waters. CENTCOM said both warships evaded the attacks and no U.S. personnel were hurt. It said M/T Downy was permanently disabled off Kharg Island, M/T Stark 1 was permanently disabled near Jask, and the unladen M/T Kylo, also called Noxen, was destroyed in the Gulf of Oman after its crew was told to abandon ship. CENTCOM alleged the vessels funded the IRGC and regional proxies.
