Kenya Aviation Workers End Two-Day Strike After Return-to-Work Deal

Kenya Aviation Workers Union ended its two-day strike Tuesday and directed members back to normal duties after signing a return-to-work agreement with transport authorities and employers. The stoppage had delayed and cancelled flights, stranded passengers and affected Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta airport as well as airports in Mombasa, Eldoret and Kisumu. The deal provides for immediate collective-bargaining talks between the union and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, addresses withheld union agency fees, and bars victimization or discipline of participants. The parties also agreed to await a court ruling on the union’s recognition dispute with Jambojet and to use established dispute-resolution procedures.
